Sunday Streets San Francisco
Sunday Streets San Francisco is this city's version of Bogota's Ciclovia. The city opens up a stretch of road way connecting the Bayview to Chinatown and running along the city’s waterfront. This route will be available for physical activities from 9AM to 1PM. The first events were held on Aug 31, 2008 and again on Sunday Sept. 14, 2008. The program was expanded from two Sundays to six Sundays in 2009.
Why this route?
Bayview and Chinatown are busy neighborhoods with minimal open space that have never been connected through one event. The City’s waterfront is one of the most beautiful parts of San Francisco. Linking the two neighborhoods along the waterfront creates an ideal opportunity for participants to exercise and explore.
Will there be more Sunday Streets events in the future?
These events are a pilot program and if successful, can be repeated or expanded in the future throughout San Francisco. After the success of the first Sunday Streets events in 2008, the program was expanded to six Sundays in 2009.
