Hiram Monserrate is a member of the Fare Hike Four , representing the 13th District in Queens. His up for re-election in November 2010, and could face a primary challenge that September.

Electoral History

Monserrate first won office in 2001 by winning an open Democratic primary for the 21st City Council District caused by Helen Marshall vacating the seat to serve as Queens Borough President. He served in the City Council from January 2002 to December 2008, surviving multiple primary challenges. In 2006, he challenged Senator John Sabini in the Democratic primary, but lost to him by 242 votes out of 12,430 cast. In 2008, Councilman Monserrate again challenged Senator Sabini. Monserrate was considered the favorite after the Queens Democratic Machine voted on May 23 to support his challenge. But the following month, the potentially contested primary was averted when Governor Paterson nominated Sabini to become chairman of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. (That August, the Senate unanimously confirmed the appointment after it was brought to the floor by Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith.) In the general election, Monserrate was also endorsed by the Working Families Party.  He ran unopposed. All results from the New York City Board of Elections.
