BikeLink is a San Francisco-based software, bicycle storage, and bicycle rental system with facilities throughout the city and surrounding areas.  The system was developed by eLock Technologies, LLC, which also manufactures bicycle storage systems used in the BikeLink network.  Users purchase a "smart card" which records transaction details, account balance, and other information.  The card prevents system abuse found with bike sharing programs in which one card is used to rent multiple bicycles concurrently. The BikeLink system was designed to be as easy and convenient as possible, and, it is hoped, will make secure bicycle parking more widely available as well as providing a secure system for the deployment of bike-sharing programs in urban areas.  As of Summer 2009, BikeLink had expanded to other west coast markets, including Seattle, Portland, and southern California [1].

The BikeLink Card is sold online at www.bikelink.org, by local facility owners, nearby businesses, or vending machines.  Paying for the short term storage works similar to that of a parking meter, but is significantly less expensive and refunds time not use.  While BikeLink is primarily for securing bikes, it also stores electric bicycles and scooters.
