This summer, the New York City Streets Renaissance Campaign is helping New Yorkers organize neighborhood block parties.
Why block parties?
- Block parties are fun.
- Block parties are an opportunity to meet your neighbors! Both on the day of the event and in the weeks leading up to the big day. The best block parties are organized by many households!
- Block parties perfectly illustrate how much better life can be when public street space is made to accommodate people.
Block Party NYC will build upon the positive effects of a traditional block party by giving neighbors access to an urban planner who will help them imagine a safer, greener street through a one-day community-led design session. So in addition to great food and a chance to play in the streets, residents will also be able to make themselves heard about what kind of block they would like to live on. And we’re awarding mini-grants to help people turn their visions for a great party into a reality.
