Project Status

Here are some ideas for starters. This is a work-in-progress. I would like to gauge interest for these ideas at our next meeting & welcome additional ideas.

Car Free Prospect Park Overview

  1. Traffic Survey / Study Subgroup

a.       Contact TA

                                                               i.      Wayne for traffic study info (standards & tips)

b.       Organize times, locations & training

                                                               i.      Coordinate w/ TA for tools

  1. Community board monitoring (14 & 8?)

a.       Find a way to involve non-driving CB members / residents to make their position known re: CFPP: especially in publicly adverse board areas.

b.       Promote friendly dialogue to provide mutually beneficial answers to local transportation issues affecting CB's adverse to CFPP.

                                                               i.      Attend adverse CB meetings

  1. "I support CFPP" T-shirt

a.       Can be given as membership gratuity or sold to support Brooklyn Committee at events (bike valet)

    1. 2-3 designs; 2-4 colors (depending on price)
    2. Price out local production vs. cheapest available (AL)
  1. PSA Creation/Distribution Campaign
    1. Purpose: bring in CFPP support among non-active supporters
    2. Short (appx. 30 sec) PSA meant for blog / youtube/ dissemination
    3. Use compelling stats to catch people's interest

                                                               i.      Auto accidents are #1 killer of children between ages of 5-9 (TA streetbeat winter 2009, pg 3, para 4)

1.       Baby in playground walking toward PP road while parent is distracted: could also include age appropriate kids playing in the park. Kids playing baseball (childhood carefree summer days); long fly ball sends kid into road (do we really need cars in PP?)

ii.      92% of all motorists exceed the speed limit in PP. What if the same % of people violated the law in other situations

1.       Subway turnstiles, people entering normally; suddenly 9 of 10 people start jumping turnstile: show shocked onlookers

2.       Elevator w/ 10 people; door closes & 9 people start smoking. 1 person getting highly annoyed, coughing.

3.       Other ideas

  1. “1 lane” of motor traffic in Prospect Park
    1. Determine status among DOT & Dept of Parks & Prospect Park Alliance ( & other bodies w/ jurisdiction) & campaign for idea implementation.
