Summer Streets is the most important car-free event in New York City history.
If you attend one event to show your love for public space this summer, it should be this one. Starting at 72nd Street, streets connecting Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge, including Park Avenue, will be car-free for six hours on three consecutive August Saturdays. As a Livable Street enthusiast, I am inviting you to join in on the fun and make this event a great success. Here's how:
- Attend the biggest block party in NYC history and show your love for weekend car-free streets.
- Volunteer as a bike marshal, walking marshal or to lead an activity on a side street. To volunteer e-mail summerstreets@transalt.org or call 212.629.8080.
- Join Transportation Alternatives (www.transalt.org) at Summer Streets and receive a special limited-edition Summer Streets tee-shirt. To join visit summerstreets@transalt.org.
- Promote Summer Streets by posting information about how to participate, volunteer and participate in one of Transportation Alternatives feeder rides to Summer Streets on your blogs and personal networking pages and by bringing flyers to local businesses and institutions, for more info e-mail summerstreets@transalt.org.
- Organize an activity at Summer Streets, there will be 90+ blocks of car-free streets, let's show the City how much better use we can make of them when they are closed to cars. View and edit the list of activities
- Organize a bike ride with friends to Summer Streets or.....
- Ride with T.A. to Summer Streets from neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. RVSP at summerstreets@transalt.org. (ride schedule coming soon).
