The High Bridge, built in 1848, is the oldest bridge linking Manhattan. It spans the Harlem River, connecting High Bridge Park with the Highbridge neighborhood in the Bronx. The bridge, for pedestrians only, has been closed for decades. In August 2008, Mayor Bloomberg toured the bridge and said it would reopen by 2012.
