Pedestrianization

  • Pedestrianization of Staff Street:
    • "Staff Street is a one-block connector between Riverside Drive and Dyckman Street. It is currently an ill-paved parking lot on a hill that also provides access for cyclists from the Hudson River Greenway terminus at Riverside Drive and the bike path on Dyckman Street. Most drivers do not use this as a through street, preferring to use the adjacent Henshaw Street instead. Families will often picnic on the grass beside the lot. I propose closing Staff Street to automobile traffic and parking, adding a southbound lane to the northbound bicycle lane to provide a two-way Greenway connector, and using the ample remaining space to install pedestrian amenities (seats, planters, etc.)."--Proposed by urbanis
  • Pedestrianization of triangle at Isham and W 211th St:
    • "I wonder if we could apply to get the dead zone on the east side of Broadway at Isham/W211 to be turned into a little plaza with planters and paint, similar to plazas popping up all over Manhattan courtesy of DOT. It is currently striped and blocked off to traffic, so it would have zero impact on cars. If we simply write to them to request it, it might get on their radar. A little plaza would be nice for providing seating in an area that has little (i..e east of Bway)"--Proposed by uskyscraper
  • Tree planting on Broadway south of Isham:
    • "Besides the ecological benefits of trees, adding more trees to Broadway would help provide a broad street with the feeling of a pleasant boulevard."--Proposed by urbanis
  • Improved conditions in Inwood Hill Park--more frequent trash collection, noise control, curbing public urination, restoration of broken park lighting, etc.
  • Reconstruction and repair of crumbling stairway at 215th Street--Proposed by Lyana

Bicycling

  • Develop a master bicycle plan for Inwood. The plan could also include projects in Washington Heights if the livable streets folks in that neighborhood are interested in combining forces since we share the same community board. Possible components of the plan are listed in the remaining bullet points.--Proposed by urbanis
  • Legitimate bicycle access to the back roads of Inwood Hill Park to connect Dyckman Street with the Henry Hudson Bridge.--Proposed by uskyscraper
  • Install a protected bicycle lane connecting the Hudson and Harlem River Greenways via Dyckman Street.--Proposed by Maggie Clarke
  • Design and implement more bicycle-friendly road infrastructure to Inwood and Washington Heights from Central Park via St. Nicholas and Broadway.--Proposed by urbanis
  • Implement the Vias Verdes de Washington Heights y Inwood project.--Proposed by Jonathan
  • Improve cycling path conditions on the Harlem River Greenway.--Proposed by Aaron
  • Design and implement a bicycle corridor stretching from 207th Street and Inwood Hill Park to Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx (parallel to the Bx12 route).--Proposed by urbanis
  • Design continuation of waterfront Greenway around Inwood (currently stops at Dyckman).--Proposed by urbanis

Mass transit

  • Later hours for express service on the A-train. If not 24/7, then to 12 a.m. M-F and 1:30 a.m. Sa-Su.--Proposed by urbanis
  • Wheelchair (elevator) access to the elevated 1 stops in Inwood (215th, 207th, Dyckman).--Proposed by urbanis
