Noah may or may not be the right person. Lindsey, Elena, Shin-pei, or maybe Peter Goldwasser would be good to speak to. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile -----Original Message-----

There is nothing sacrosanct about 3rd Wednesdays. I can set up a poll on Surveymonkey to find out a better time in general, if people want. I wonder what kind of game TA is pulling here. Does Noah not know all those things you listed or did Caroline do them all on her own. Should we bring all of these items to TA's attention and ask for the same? Is it that TA won't work on a project unless they get money from a Councilmember? If so how much do they need to do what? Somebody needs to follow up with TA I think. But who (on our side and their side). Also, I think both of the rumors you said are true. At 02:20 PM 12/6/2009, you wrote: Unfortunately, still having conflicts on both CB12 trans comm meeting on Dec 7 and your group meeting on Dec 16th, so not sure I can make either. Can anyone cover the Monday CB12 meeting? However, on the issue of TA's help, FYI, TA did three principal things to urge CB8 to vote for a resolution requesting DOT to conduct a protected bike lane study for ES: 1) TA started the Eastside group. This we do not need this as you already have a group. 2) TA distributed a petition that I drafted, with Caroline Sampanaros' approval, to TS NYC membership. That resulted in about 1000 signatures in favor of protected bike lane on ES, including several hundred from ES residents. 3) Caroline Sampanaro helped CB8 organize a bike forum and attended the forum, one CB8 trans comm meeting and the final full board vote on the bike resolution. 4) I attended about 4 Trans comm meetings and each time advocated for bike lanes. The resistance did not start to wane until the full board bike forum when the ES politicians spoke in favor of protected bike lanes. 5) After the forum, at last comm meeting, a member of Trans comm drafted a resoultion like CB7's resolution, and it passed, then it was taken to full Board where it passed again 38-1. I believe the TA "grant" money was used for a group leader who did not work out. My suggestion is that, not necessarily in this order, we 1) draft a similar petition, 2) try to get as many signatures online and on the ground as possible, 3) perhaps TA will then help get more signatures from its database and a mass mailing, 4) we ask if Trans Comm would like an educational fourm before either comm or full board, and, if so, ask Caroline to attend/host a bike forum or educational session; 5) we present the petition to CB12 Trans Comm meeting and ask them to vote on a resolution similar to that adopted by CB7 and CB8. Unless of course there are enough members now on Trans comm to vote in favor without a petition, which from the last meeting I atttended seemed to be a possibility. Perhaps an educational forum would suffice. Note: rumor has it there is one person on trans committee who is actively against bike lanes of any sort and has the power to stop it. Anyone know about this? I think I have posted this concern before. Rumor also has it that Jackson has not been helpful to date. Anyone know if this is true and, if so, why hasn't he been suupportive? Sent: Sun, December 6, 2009 12:29:32 PM Subject: [Inwood Livable Streets discussion] More tips on our strategy from TA I ran into Noah Budnick from TA last night at the 5BBC holiday party and we talked about the Dyckman Greenway connector project. He wanted to know if anything had happened with it. And honestly, the answer is a resounding No. I asked if TA could help us with volunteers as they did with upper East side projects. He said they'd gotten grants from specific locations (e.g. from Councilmembers) like the upper East side and recommended we talk to Robert Jackson about this. Also, he said we have to get "more than one" (i.e. a few at least) individuals who are on the phone with Manhattan DOT on a regular basis. We kinda knew these things already, so I think this is an important item for the agenda for next week's meeting (Dec 16, my place). Let's fill in David's matrix of action items with who of us will do what and in what time frame. I think we should also talk about methods to reach out to our less active members to see what they can and will do for the cause. Guaranteed if we are not active, nothing will happen.
