The Madison Avenue Bridge: Could it be easier to cross? Yes!

Hello all,
I'm wondering if anyone has looked in to the intersection where The Madison Avenue Bridge comes in to the Bronx and petitioned to get that area improved for pedestrians and bikes? I see a lot of people struggling with this intersection, it lacks curb cuts in places and it could probably use a few traffic islands so you'd have some hope of ever getting across. Am I the only one who's disappointed and frustrated with the way the sidewalks are set up in this area? The city is rezoning this part of the Bronx for residential development-- and that could be a good thing if some of the new housing is affordable:

But, I think we all know that this will mean even more pedestrians in the area in the future. I have also been looking in to the part of 161st street near the new Yankee Stadium. I think there is a pretty good chance of that area getting some attention when the new stadium and Metro North station opens. But it will require some villagance. I wrote a letter to DOT and got a form letter response saying they are "looking in to it."
I don't know what the best process is to make these things happen and I'd welcome suggestions.
