Overall Platform
CT Livable Streets Campaign (CTLS) exists to coordinate and provide resources for statewide advocacy efforts around safe streets issues, such as legislation related to transportation, law enforcement and public health. Campaign members may choose which of the planks of our platform to support, and advocate accordingly.
- CTLS Legislative Priority #1: Improved Traffic Enforcement
- Enabling legislation for cities and towns in Connecticut to legally enact use of red light cameras.
- Other CTLS Advocacy Campaigns and Legislative Priorities
- Coordinating support for community-based traffic safety organizations such as the New Haven Safe Streets Coalition, Central Connecticut Bicycle Alliance and others.
- Safe Routes for Seniors.
- Safe Routes for Disabled.
- Safe Routes to Transit.
- Congestion pricing and other innovative, successfully-used programs to ensure that Connecticut has enough resources to maintain existing transportation infrastructure and fund our current and future transit and non-motorized transportation systems.
- Funding for local pedestrian safety improvements to be included as a part of all state school construction projects.
- Safe Routes to School Program, which typically include road engineering as well as educational programs within schools.
- Legislation for enabling bicycle access on Metro-North Railroad.
- Supporting the national campaign for smarter, more livable streets through the Transportation for America Campaign - a coalition of hundreds of national groups advocating for a 21st century transportation system.
- Previous CTLS Legislative Priorities: Safe and Complete Streets
- Connecticut Campaign for Safe and Complete Streets (SB735 became law on July 1st, 2009 and was a first step in the campaign. Congratulations to the broad coalition that lobbied for the bill!).
