Dear CT Livable Streets:

1. If you have any concerns about our group supporting the Federal expansion of the Safe Routes to School program, please let me know.

2. Please let me know if you would be interested in modifying/personalizing the attached letter so that it can be sent to Senator Dodd on behalf of the CT Livable Streets Steering Committee.

3. If you are a part of any other organizations that would like to send in a letter of support, or if you would like to do so individually, additional information can be found in the email below.  I'm sure that the SRTS partnership would appreciate additional letters of support.

Best regards,

Mark Abraham

Connecticut Livable Streets Steering Committee –

I handle federal-level advocacy for the Safe Routes to School program.  We have a Senate bill, S. 1156, that would triple funding for Safe Routes to School and make a number of other changes to strengthen and improve the program – plus reauthorize it for an additional five years.  Full details on the bill are available on our website at http://www.saferoutespartnership.org/national.

I met recently with Senator Dodd’s office, and they are interested in cosponsoring the legislation – but would like to hear from local organizations and groups.  I was wondering if you might consider writing a letter to the Senator from the Connecticut Livable Streets Campaign (or from any of your individual organizations that make up the steering committee or membership) in support of S. 1156.  I’ve attached a sample letter.

If you are willing to do this, you can fax or email the completed letter to me – I will then forward it to the staffers that I met with directly.   I’m contacting some other groups in Connecticut as well – I hope to deliver a bundle of letters at one time.  If you have any suggestions of other groups I should contact, please pass them along – I’d really appreciate it!

I’d be happy to discuss this with you further – please just call or email me.  Thank you so much for your consideration!

Also – big congrats on passage of Complete Streets in Connecticut, that’s a great victory!

Sincerely,

Margo Pedroso
