The text of the petition is as follows:

"On Friday, October 3rd at approximately 6:30pm, there was a serious car accident at the intersection of Smith and Sackett Streets. This intersection has already seen two fatal accidents in the last 15 years. Several pedestrians have been hit and seriously injured, and there are near-misses literally every single day.

"The key issue is that it is almost impossible for drivers at the Sackett Street stop sign to get a good look at oncoming traffic because the view is obstructed by parked cars on the east side of Smith Street.   And for pedestrians, to cross this intersection is no easier because cars and buses speed down Smith Street and many make fast left turns onto Sackett – it is both a bus route and the only westbound thoroughfare that crosses the BQE.

"It is absolutely imperative that the DOT act immediately to install a traffic signal at the dangerous intersection of Smith and Sackett in Carroll Gardens."
