I agree you should praise the borough for taking the initiative for bike parking. But you should advise them to use best practices if and when more racks are purchased. The better racks can also be more attractive and take up less sidewalk space than the toast racks.

Hi Stella--The Rotary Club would like to install one for us!
They just need a good place to do it. They want it to be for multiple bikes and to be kind of attractive. The post office?  Or  in front of the old zane school..... or where do you think?

The borough of Collingswood has recently installed several new "toast rack" style bike racks around town.  For example there is one between the town hall and Wawa, and one at the library.  These can hold several bikes so they are good for places with a lot of traffic.  The town currently has more that they have not installed yet.  So my question is:  Where do you need a bike rack?  Particularly one that can hold multiple bikes.  If there is some pressing need in a certain place, we can ask the town to install one there.

Personally, I would love to see one at the post office, and if there is enough space, near the Grooveground.  Where else?

Just a side note, I don't love this type of bike rack for safety reasons, since most people are likely to just lock the front wheel, which can be popped off of some bikes easily.  The state of NJ and professional organizations prefer the use of the upside-down U racks such as the ones at the PATCO station.  These support the entire frame of the bike and are also small so can be installed along the curb in a tight space.  That said, we already have several of the large "toast rack" kind, so lets first work with what we have.  And not to be too critical, I applaud the Borough of Collingswood for recognizing the need and purchasing bike parking for residents and visitors of Collingswood.

Where do you need a bike rack? Let us know!
