This group is founded in a University of Illinois at Chicago study on public space. Our group selected Millennium Park as it is the newest and most acclaimed public space in Chicago. The park also has a history of criticism for its cost and - as some claim - pervasive security measures.
We have had some interesting insights into the daily life of the park - some positive and some negative. Over the next couple months, we will be posting our field notes and pictures from our visits to the park.
If anyone happens to stumble upon our little experiment and you'd like to comment on your own experiences or ones we've posted, please don't hesitate to comment or join in.
Over the summer, this virtual space will continue to document public space in Chicago in some way shape or form, and perhaps members outside the initial study will be the ones to push it in one direction or another.
Cheers, David Mathis, UIC Sociology Undergrad
