  • Using this awesome technology

from Elly Blue on 2008-06-21 20:44
    Hi team,
I am just starting to explore this, and am loving it. Wow. Thanks! My big worry has always been losing momentum and energy post conference and this really answers to that bigtime.

    Three comments:

    1. The link to the blog on the front page is broken

    2. I am excited about the possibilities for networking here, and am planning to send a link to this tool to all conference participants on Monday or Tuesday. I am thinking that it would be good to have a basic guide for how to use the wiki posted on the front page... of course it's a wiki so I should just do it myself, but maybe you have a boilerplate ready to use? It's not 100% intuitive where you can post pictures, what things like pages and content mean, and what makes someone part of the team (you have to be approved or something?).

    3. Mad (bike) love!

Wow, replying is even cooler than writing the original message! I love this.

One more question, are discussion tags in the pipeline?

      Thanks Elly,

I'm glad to see you're on the list. You can also "join" the group,
which will let you use the other group features (editing pages
collaboratively, blogging, etc.). There's a link to join the group to
the right of the group title.

Re: your questions -- which link to the blog do you mean? All the
      links on this page (http://www.livablestreets.com/projects/carfree08/summary
) seem to work for me.

That's great that you want to send out a link to conference
participants. Re: instructions, that's something we're working on
throughout the site -- I'd be happy to put together a little something
on the front of the group wiki page tomorrow before you send out the
      email.

If you have any questions, you can call me at 917-825-6590 or find me
      on AIM at Lucky622.

        Thanks, Nick,
I just tried to join again -- I see membership is moderated. I'd be happy to
take on some of that if you need it.

The broken link is on the Summary Page, in the text -- the words "on the blog"
are hyperlinked, but clicking on it takes you to a Whoops message.

I'll probably send out the email Monday night or Tuesday morning -- if you've
got anything to put up before then, great. From an organizing perspective,
what I'd most like people to know about is that they can post photos and
files, and that they need to join to use some features.

By the way, what is the file sharing capacity here? We are planning on sharing
all of the conference presentation powerpoints that we can get our hands on,
and would love to share video, audio, and text of press coverage too. Would
this be a good platform for all or some part of that?

Maybe we should talk on the phone!
        Thanks again,
        Elly

          Hi all,
Love the potential of this space. One small concern - when reading threads
such as this, the text runs wider than the window (on my screen, at least).
Sadly, the scroll bar at the bottom is out of view on most posts, since all
the thread history is repeated in each post (unless you manually snip, as I've
done below) and pushes the scroll to below the screen area. Makes it kind of
          bothersome to read.
Is there an easy fix for this?

            Hi Timo,

Thanks for the note -- we've noticed the problem, and are working on a
fix right now (it's only a problem in Internet Explorer). Meantime,
you can read everything just fine via email.

So you know, we have a "help" discussion list over in the "Streets
Staff" group, where you can post general comments, questions, or bug
            reports: http://www.livablestreets.com/projects/streets-staff/lists/streets-staff-discussion/archive

            All the best,
