I am the Director of Education and Outreach for Hazon, a Jewish organization that works to raise environmental awareness and activism within the Jewish community. (Much more info about Hazon is on our web site, www.hazon.org.) I am directing an initiative to involve synagogues and other Jewish institutions on the Upper West Side in streets-greening activities. More specifically, I'm working with them to develop plans for traffic-calming, bicycle and pedestrian safety and other measures on their blocks or immediate environs, which they will eventually present to the Community Board for endorsement and transmission to the Commissioner of Transportation for implementation.
